Hashtag Music: Do Twitter-Friendly Song Titles Make a #Difference?

The first song in hashtag history to reach the Billboard charts was keytar-wielding dance-pop act Cobra Starship’s single “#1Nite,” which hit No. 23 on Bubbling Under in August 2011. The third single from the band’s fourth (and most recent) album, “Night Shades,” has sold 91,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

According to Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, the idea to add a hashtag came at the last minute.

“The song was originally just ‘One Night,’” Saporta tells Billboard. “But as we were writing down a track listing to be sent out to the press, our manager Alex Sarti [of Crush Management] suggested we should add a hashtag so that we could be an automatic trending topic, and [the band] thought it was such a good idea we just jumped on it without really thinking twice.”

Saporta says that, to promote the song, the band engaged fans on Twitter by asking them to talk about “that one night you can’t forget,” thereby tying a song to a particular topic or movement. The effort was a success among fans (#1Nite did become a trending topic for a brief period), but it left some confused radio DJs declaring, “Coming up next, it’s ‘Number One Night!’”

With a Top 10 single, “Good Girls Go Bad,” recently under its belt, Cobra Starship was actually a fairly high-profile act to adopt the hashtag single at the turn of the decade.

William Beckett would love to perfom with Gabe again

Q: I had the fun of seeing you on stage with Gabe Saporta, Travis McCoy and the rest of Cobra Starship at FBR’s 15th anniversary show. Do you see yourself doing a future tour or show with them again or did the fans get a once in a lifetime Snakes In A Plane reunion?

Beckett: I’d love to tour with all of them again! I definitely miss those boys and gal. I wouldn’t be opposed to doing Snakes on a Plane…one more time.

@FangsupLfestyle a happy Fan who had the chance to talk to Beckett told UGS that he won’t be able to attend Gabe’s wedding this weekend because he has some shows in the UK.

Our Look into Erin Fetherston’s Upcoming Wedding

How they met: Technically, Erin’s adorable Chinese crested powder puff, Molly, facilitated their first meeting. Almost seven years ago, Erin asked an employee in her office to take care of Molly while she was away in Paris for a weekend. As it turned out, the employee was dating Gabe’s bandmate, Cobra Starship guitarist Ryland Blackinton, who saw the pup and thought she’d be a great addition to one of the band’s music videos. A few years later, Erin saw Ryland at fashion event in NYC, and he briefly introduced her to Gabe. A few months later, Gabe attended a dinner Erin was hosting, and from then on, the couple began a long-distance courtship until they could continue their relationship in New York City.

The proposal: During a vacation in Barbados, Gabe woke up early one morning and collected coral from the beach to spell out “Will you marry me?” on their cottage’s patio while Erin was sleeping. To lull her from her slumber, he said there was a monkey outside. “My sleepy-eyed bride quickly realized the only monkey that morning was me,” he told Us magazine, “and of course she said, ‘Yes!’”

Their wedding inspiration: Without giving too much away, we can safely say that the whimsical feeling of Erin’s designs will also be reflected in the details of our collaboration, from invites to escort cards. But as for her dress? That’ll be a frothy and fantasy-filled Erin Fetherston original.

Quick News about the 1 World Music Festival performance

As I posted last week the Cobras will perform a DJ Set in Singapore later this year. I asked the guys at 1 World Music Festival for some more Information and they told me that it will be a full live show (I assume it’s with all the 5 members of the band!) and that there will be a meet and greet and they’ll pick two lucky winners that can meet the band. I’ll let you know when I get more Information about the contest for the m&g.

Temporary Layout

UGS is having a new design, well it is actually ‘only’ temporary.

To be honest I wanted to have a new design for the site on April 23rd (the sites 3rd anniversary). To make sure I get it right in time I ordered it in February (!) and I finally ‘got’ it last week, but sadly it isn’t working. I feel like the ‘designer’ doesn’t care if it’s done or not…

So this layout right here will be up till the actual summer layout is finally coded. I hope you enjoy this one, it’s simple and something I’ve never had before. Oh and I used a Pic of Gabe and Erin, because they will marry this month!
