LightGroup: Gabe Saporta Performs at The Bank Nightclub
What is a Cobra Starship? I know, you are asking yourself the same thing. True, Cobra Starship is a wildly popular pop band, headed by front man Gabe Saporta, but… why? Digging around on the Internet doesn’t produce a solid answer, but it does give you a little insight on why the group is oddly named what it is. Turns out Cobra Starship is the result of a vision quest lead singer Gabe Saporta took in the deserts of Arizona, it must have been an enlightening experience.
Regardless of how they came to their name, one thing that is not so vague is that people really like their music. Cobra Starship has been around quite a bit longer than many people know, but they did not gain widespread notoriety and fame until their third album, containing hit song “Good Girls Go Bad”. For most of 2009 you couldn’t go to any nightclub without hearing their chart topping single. Hit after hit followed, accompanied by sold out world tours and more press than any band could possibly ever imagine, elevating them quickly to superstar status in the pop world.
While the band is still together, having released their latest album earlier this year, Gabe Saporta puts on a hell of a show with just a microphone. He took the stage at The Bank Nightclub (Nov 18) shortly after 1am, and the crowd went crazy. Gabe Saporta is basically “that guy” who causes girls of all ages to scream when they see him, which must get increasingly annoying in the supermarket. Pair his good looks with his supreme fashion sense and now-iconic voice and one can begin to tell why the crowd erupts with screams and flashbulbs when he grabs the microphone. He opened his performance with “Good Girls Go Bad”, every single lady in the room singing at the top of her lungs to the well-known chorus. Also included in his high-energy set was new hit single “One Night”, which rose to #4 on the Billboard Charts the very same week he performed at The Bank. Halfway through his performance Saporta was joined by pop superstar Bruno Mars, who stayed to party with mutual friends all night long. Add that to the list of bonuses that come with being one of the biggest pop singers on the planet, hanging out with other superstar pop vocalists after performing for a room of screaming sexy ladies.
Gabe Saporta loves his fans too, after his performance he stuck around to sign autographs and pose for pictures with seemingly anyone who asked. Earlier in the day he even took over the Light Group’s Twitter account to answer questions from fans, which flooded in…almost overwhelming him as he replied on his iPad. Sadly for me, Gabe was far too busy hanging out with gorgeous women and doing shots after his performance at The Bank for me to get a chance to ask him, “why Cobra Starship?”. Yet another perk of being a superstar… security keeps the lovely ladies close and the pesky bloggers far from arm’s length.
